As we launch the non-profit “Unstoppable Love International” we wanted to share with you the story behind the name and the clear word that was given to us on the streets of Portland Oregon. In 2012 we began doing ministry to the women caught in the grips of trafficking and sexual exploitation. God was stirring in us a desire to do something to reach out to these women. We made up some gifts and headed to the street with a small team of 5 people. It was a Friday night around 12:30am, we had no idea what we were doing, but we knew God had led us to go to the streets and to take His love to the dark places. As we walked the streets we saw the darkness all around us, women selling themselves and men out to have a good time. To be honest we were overwhelmed. As we walked we saw a woman off by herself, with two men standing with her. She was counting her money. We stood as a group, discussing how to approach her, and struggling to have the courage. Michelle decided to go to her and quickly tell her that she was loved and valued and give her the gift. We did not want to interrupt them, but we wanted her to have the gift. Tears came to the girl’s eyes as Michelle gave her the gift and showed her love. She gave her a hug and told her she was loved. We then kept walking down the street. A few minutes later the men that had been with the girl approached us. One of them began asking us many questions, pressing to know who we were and what we were doing. We explained to them, but we were also being careful to not give to much detail. They kept pressing and so Michelle said we are with our Heavenly Father out here showing women that they are loved and valued. He looked at us and then said, “That’s what it is. I could see there is something different about you.” He then proceeded to say that he had a word for us. He said, “Right now you are thinking about this too much. You’re doing it from your head. You need to move it from your head to your heart and then you will be UNSTOPPABLE.” We were really surprised as this was just the word of encouragement we needed. Of course he had our attention now and we began asking him questions. He then looked at us and said, “What if I told you that I speak every language in the world, would you believe me?” In our group we had enough people that we could verify 5 or 6 languages and so we started testing him. Without missing a beat, he spoke in every language we tested him on. We then were really curious who he was and how had learned so many languages. We asked him where he was from. He said, “heaven” and walked away. For the next two years we looked for him as we walked the streets of Portland, but we never saw him again.
Fast forward 6 years and we are now in S.E. Asia taking the love of Jesus into the dark places. We have never forgotten that word that was given to us on the streets of Portland and we have continued to see God move in amazing ways. It is no longer something just in our heads, but something that God has placed deep in our hearts. As we have stepped out in faith and founded Unstoppable Love International, we believe that God will be calling others to join us in taking God’s love to the dark places.
